ERV is the Explorer Research Vehicle!
The Explorer Research Voyage is a project of the Kansas Sampler Foundation.
ERV comes from Midway Motors of McPherson! They have loaned us a 2012 GMC Terrain for the two year journey!
In the early 2000s, Foundation director Marci Penner went to each of the 627 incorporated cities in Kansas to research for the Kansas Guidebook for Explorers. It was published in 2005.
This new journey to the 626 cities will take approximately two years and 40,000 miles. The end result will be the update to the Kansas Guidebook for Explorers. Approximate publication date is 2015. The 2005 spiral-bound guidebook was 432-pages long and included 3,597 entries and many pictures. Of the 627 cities, we wrote about 500 of them.
WenDee LaPlant will co-research and co-author this next book and will be in charge of the Facebook and Twitter entries. Marci will write a blog each day about the journey.
The reason for the guidebook is to support the mission of the Foundation: to preserve and sustain rural culture.
